Methodology
We rent a server from every hosting company on the list, set them all up the same way, and run the same tests. Then we write down what we saw — the good and the bad — and pick winners based on the results. No paid placements, no 4.7-out-of-5 ratings.
How we stay honest
We test first, then pick the winners. Never the other way around.
The table below shows how often each hosting company actually won a category across every review we’ve published. Companies that never win show up too — zero wins, right there on the page. That’s the check on our work.
The scoreboard
Updated automatically every time we publish a review. If a hosting company never wins anything, their row still shows up with zeros. We don’t hide that.

What we check
Each item below either passes, fails, or doesn’t apply. No 4.7-out-of-5, no fake decimals. “Your tool” below gets replaced with the actual software name on each review.
Where we test
For tools that use AI services like ChatGPT or Claude, we test from the US East Coast because that’s closest to the AI servers. Shorter distance means faster responses.
For tools that don’t use AI (like Coolify or PocketBase), we use each company’s main data center. The review page for each tool tells you where we tested it.
A note on two providers
For most hosting companies we spin up a fresh server for each tool — fair start every time. But Hostinger and Contabo don’t let us quickly delete servers, so we reuse one across the whole review.
That means we can only time the very first install once on those two. On the other nine tools, we mark those two timings as “not applicable” instead of pretending we re-measured them.
What we actually do
We sign up for each hosting company and rent the same kind of server from each — 4 processors, 8 GB of memory, fast storage. Then we install the software on every server the same way.
We time everything. How long setup took. How fast the processor is. How fast the disk reads and writes. How fast the network connection is. For AI tools, we also time how fast the server can reach ChatGPT, Claude, and DeepSeek.
Every timing test runs three times, and we use the middle number — that keeps one weird reading from changing the results. Then we file a real support ticket with each company and note how long they took to reply.
The awards
When the winner only beats the runner-up by a hair (less than 10%), we say so right below the winner’s name and show both numbers. You shouldn’t have to guess how close it was.
See it in practice
We applied this methodology to Coolify, the self-hosted PaaS. Six hosting companies, one test each, numbers included. Read the Coolify review →
How we get paid
Some of the links on this site are affiliate links. If you sign up for a hosting company through one of them, we get a small commission — you pay the same price either way. We pick the winners from the test results, not from who pays us the most.
